About Steph MacNeil - Ontario

I have been involved with AireCanada Airedale Rescue as a coordinator for the province of Ontario since 2003. I currently have two of my own Airedales, both females, Groovy 6 and Maggie 5. Along with my two furkids we often have foster 'dales come and spend some time with us while they are waiting for their forever homes.

Seda in Ottawa

Seda has found her forever home and has been adopted.  Thanks for the interest.

Seda is a sweet beautiful 6 year old Aire-girl looking for her forever family.  She is located in Ottawa and will be a wonderful companion for the right people.

Five things that need to be considered if thinking about adopting Seda:

1. She hasn’t had very much human affection or interaction. She can be a bit  jumpy, nervous, uneasy at times.
2. She has accidents on the floor occasionally and doesn’t seem to be completely house trained but is really learning the ropes.
3. She never had regular vet visits. Shots were not always kept up to date. Seda is now up to date with vaccinations.  She is tender with her back end and hips, favoring the right side when she sits down.
4. She has had minimal human interaction and is unable to follow commands like sit or lay down. She is very smart but not trained to do the simplest of commands. But I believe she is very capable of learning and we have been working with her everyday to try and teach her.
5. She runs away if given the opportunity. She has to be on a leash at all times when outside. She is not trained to come back to owner when called. When you open the patio door, if not careful, she will dart outside.
The five best things about Seda:
1. She is very affectionate and cuddling with owner after establishing some trust. She loves cuddles.
2. She is very good on walks. Walks beside you with minimal pulling and jumping.
3. She is calm and easy going for an Airedale.  She enjoys quiet environments with no yelling (as it makes her skittish). She enjoys laying on her dog bed in front of the fireplace in close proximity to her owner.
4. She loves dog treats and bones!!
5. She is a smaller female, shorter build. She is a good weight. She eats very well. Seda is a CKC reg. dog from AERIE AIREDALES. Breeder/Owner: Pat Neil.
She needs an owner to trust, who has patience, who can teach her, provide affection cuddles and lots of human contact, who will walk her and give her lots of exercise and ultimately be the owner that will keep her long term. A quite house would be the ideal environment for her.
Please note Seda will only be placed in a home with a fenced yard and no small children.

Noel – HSI Puppy Mill Raid

ALL Puppy Mill dogs have been adopted.  Thank you for your interest and support.  Watch for some future blog post to see how they are adapting to their new homes!

Our Story:  http://www.hsi.org/world/canada/news/news/dog_rescue_sept2011.html

4 month females, Noel and Merry, being transported from the HSI compound in Montreal to their foster homes.

Merry and Noel’s beautiful Mom traveling beside her aire-pups.  She also had three boys who found their forever homes.  There were also two adult males that are now safe in their new homes.

Noel is the pup standing on the right and is looking for her forever home.  She is a sweet, busy and loving aire-girl.  Her wonderful foster family report she is very bright and eager to learn.  She has a solid grasp on her house breaking and will sit when asked.  She is alllll airedale puppy though so don’t be fooled by those deep brown innocent eyes!

If you think you might be Noel’s forever home, then please complete the adoption application found here.  Please note only homes that have Airedale experience, a fenced yard, no children under 5  and in Ontario will be considered for adoption.  We do not fly dogs and don’t want to transport Noel long distances.  The closer to Ottawa the better.

Puppy Mill Airedales

Thanks to all the support for these wonderful animals, the mill dogs have all been adopted.  Stay tuned for future blog posts on their new lives!

In September Humane Society International (HSI) was involved in the largest puppy mill bust in Canada.  You can read  about it here: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/story/2011/09/17/quebec-puppy-mill-raid.html

The courts ruled on this case Thursday November 24. The owner has been charged and the dogs were handed over to HSI for adoption.  There were indeed Airedales taken in the raid and Airedale rescue has been on the ground working hard to get these dogs to a better place.  As of this weekend we did get custody of the Airedales and given the situation they were in, these dogs are in great shape and seem to have lovely temperaments.  A special shout out goes to our dedicated volunteers who picked up the dogs and are fostering them.  A special thanks goes to Sophia Grabowiecka who was in the facility volunteering with HSI and worked as the contact between Airedale rescue and HSI.  We wouldn’t have these dogs in our care if it wasn’t for the kindness and caring of these wonderful volunteers!  Thank You!

Currently we are desperate to find a foster home in or near the Ottawa area for one young male who is still waiting to be picked up.  Can you please help?

If you are looking to adopt an Airedale we should have two females and a male available for adoption in the next week or two.  Check back soon for more info and pictures.

Don’t Forget About Teddy in Ontario

Are You My Forever Family?

Teddy has been adopted.

Teddy is still looking for his forever home.  Please consider him!

Teddy came into foster care in August and is still looking for his forever home. He is a 7 year old 52 lb aireboy who loves cuddles and people time. Here is a note from his foster family:

Teddy has been a joy to have around. He has really gotten used to living the family life and is extremely loyal. He’s gotten so comfortable with his foster parents he even jumps up on the couch and bed to stay nice and close to them. He follows his foster parents around wherever they go and almost wags his bum off with excitement when they get home from being out. He really loves his people. He also loves playing with plush toys and helping cook dinner, especially when a crumb is accidentally dropped. He’s getting more comfortable on his leash but still needs to be watched around certain dogs. He sure does know when it’s time for a walk though!
His number one desirable quality is his loyalty. If you’re looking for a forever best friend then Teddy’s your guy. He hasn’t left his foster parents side since he joined them. He always makes sure to be a part of what their doing whether it’s watching TV, mowing the lawn or spending a day at the office.

If you are Teddy’s forever family, please complete the adoption applications and contact Ontario@airecanada.com with any questions. Please note that we do not fly dogs so if you are interested you need to be located in Ontario.
