Update on Winston!

We are truly blessed by the overwhelming response! We’ve received so many incredible applications from coast to coast to coast, and even some interest from south of the border.

There are many homes we feel would be a really good fit, and our team is currently working hard to settle on the absolute best possible option for him. Because of this, we are officially marking Winston’s adoption as PENDING!

A quick reminder: We place most of our dogs with people who have submitted their applications in advance, and we keep all applications on file for the next Airedale in need.

If you are interested in adopting, fostering, or volunteering in the future, we highly encourage you to get a head start and submit an application on our website!

Meet Winston, a handsome and affectionate 3-year-old Airedale Terrier who is looking for a quiet, understanding home where he can feel safe and thrive.

Winston is described as a gentle, loving dog with many wonderful qualities. He is house trained, respectful in the home, and can be trusted with the run of the house without damaging toys or household belongings. He rarely barks, enjoys car rides, loves being groomed, and is known for giving hugs. He likes to stand on his person’s foot to be close. He enjoys the company of people and has reportedly done well with children and other animals. He previously lived among other dogs and has enjoyed spending time with another terrier. A home with a calm, compatible canine companion may help him feel more secure. He has shown friendly curiosity toward cats, although any introductions would need to be managed carefully. Winston knows “sit” using both a verbal cue and a hand signal. Although he was not familiar with a crate when he first arrived, he now views his open crate as a safe and comfortable place and chooses to rest there on his own.

The Home Winston Needs
Heis highly sensitive to loud traffic and sudden urban noise. Motorcycles, buses, air brakes, large trucks, and other loud vehicles can cause him significant fear and anxiety.

His current caregiver has consulted both a trainer and a veterinarian and has made the difficult, compassionate decision that city living is not the right environment for him.

A quiet rural or country setting A securely fenced yard A calm, patient, and reassuring household with limited exposure to heavy traffic and sudden mechanical noise People willing to let him settle in at his own pace Ideally, a calm and compatible canine companion, although each home will be considered individually.

Winston is not destructive, aggressive, or poorly behaved. He is a gentle dog who is overwhelmed by the noise and activity of an urban environment. In a peaceful setting, he has shown that he can relax, interact with other dogs, and enjoy simply being an Airedale.

AireCanada is currently seeking qualified applicants from Alberta and British Columbia who can offer Winston the quiet, secure environment he deserves.

  1. We certainly appreciate your interest in Winston, especially so soon after his posting!

As always, our goal is to find the very best possible home for him. We would certainly consider an Ontario home and would not rule it out. That said, we would carefully take into account how stressful the journey might be for Winston and whether it would be in his best interest.

If you’ve previously submitted an application using this email address, we’ll be happy to review it. If not, please complete an application so we can learn more about you.

Thank you for your interest in Winston!

  2. I am a soon to be 82 year young male who lost my partner, a Cain/Silky terrier cross one year ago. Archie was my best friend who joined me everywhere except food stores and the doctor’s office. He lay between my legs while I was in the dentist’s chair.
When as a youngster, we had three Airedales. Jigs was my companion. My living arrangement is one where I live in a strata duplex where Archie was loved by all ( except one couple) he was well behaved and almost had equal claim to the home. I have two daughters I visit twice a year each, for a week at a time. Our daughter in northern Alberta lives on a quarter section with her husband and large friendly dog. Our other daughter lives in Surrey with access to many walking trails and pet friendly parks.
I do not expect to find nor want another Archie, I do want another well behaved pet partner who can give and accept love and loyalty.
